Akshay Bommireddi, MD

Dr. Akshay Bommireddi is a board-certified internal medicine physician and nephrologist with Southern California Kidney Associates, providing comprehensive kidney care throughout Orange County, including at Hoag. His clinical interests include chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, hypertension, electrolyte and acid-base disorders, and the care of patients receiving hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

Dr. Bommireddi completed his nephrology fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he served as Chief Nephrology Fellow. During fellowship, he gained extensive experience managing complex kidney disease across the hospital, intensive care unit, dialysis center, and outpatient clinic. He also participated in clinical research and quality-improvement initiatives focused on dialysis outcomes, preservation of residual kidney function, medical education, and improving the delivery of patient care.

Before fellowship, Dr. Bommireddi completed his internal medicine residency and chief residency at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara. As Chief Resident, he helped lead resident education, mentorship, clinical operations, and wellness initiatives. He developed and implemented educational programs, including an academic half-day curriculum and enhanced electrocardiogram training, while serving as a liaison between residents, faculty, and hospital leadership.

Dr. Bommireddi earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College through the combined Physician-Scientist Program with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.
